Retha Orem

Retha R. Orem, a Prineville resident, passed away on Saturday, Feb.14, 2009. She was 
76 years of age.

At her request, no public services will be held at this time. Cremation was held at The 
Prineville Heritage Crematory, under the Direction of Prineville Funeral Home.

Mrs. Orem was born on May 13, 1932 in Castle Rock, Wash., the daughter of Stanley H. and 
Violet (Hill) Wilkerson. She married Raymond P. Orem on Sept. 3, 1949 in Vancouver, Wash.

Retha was raised and educated in Castle Rock, Wash., then she moved to Molalla, Ore., in 
1942. She was a member of the 1950 class at Molalla Union High School. She lived in Molalla 
where she was a homemaker and raised her children. She owned a farm with her husband and 
worked and was a member of the O.S.U. Extension Service. She enjoyed sewing, making most 
of her childrens’ and grandchildrens’ clothes. They moved to Prineville in 1974 when they 
bought the "Smith's Grocery Store". They changed the name to its present name "R & R Grocery". 
Retha loved the outdoors, fishing, camping, sewing, knitting, crocheting. She was well known 
for the crocheting she made for various Christmas Bazaars'. They sold the store in 1995 and 
spent their time traveling all over Oregon, fishing and camping.

Mrs. Orem is survived by her husband Raymond P. "Ray" Orem of Prineville ; sons Dennis 
and wife Jo Orem of Kalama, Wash., John and wife Bonnie Orem of Prineville and Joe and 
wife Anita Orem of Ione, Ore.; a brother Stanley H. Wilkerson Jr. of Vancouver, Wash.; 
16 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Leslie Weaver in 1992.

Arrangements are in the care of the Prineville Funeral Home.
