Donald Cyrus Young, 68, went home to be with the Lord on Aug. 20, after a brief illness with cancer. A memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 27 at 11 a.m. at the Calvary Baptist Church in Prineville. Pastor Joel Dunaway will officiate. A potluck dinner for family and friends to follow.

Donald was born in Bend to Coleman and Wilma (Stultz) Young on Sept. 18, 1945. His father moved the family to Prineville in 1954 and there, Donald attended school in Crook County.

Donnie served our country proudly in the Vietnam War from May 1967 to November 1971. He was wounded in action and received a Purple Heart, Silver Star, Army Accommodation Metal and a Certificate of Appreciation for protecting his commanding officers. He was hospitalized for three years to survive his wounds. After the service he operated heavy equipment for most of his life.

He is survived by his wife Phyllis Young; two children, Laythen and his wife Teresa Young of Portage, Mich. And Shelly and husband Guye Holmes of Sunriver; one sister Ruth and husband Chuck Buchanan of Troutdale; three grandchildren, one great granddaughter, and many nieces and nephews.

Donald was preceded in death by his son Donald; his parents; and his brother Sheldon.
