POLK COUNTY
OREGON

     Polk County was created from the Yamhill District on December 22, 1845.
The county was named after then President James Knox Polk.

 The first county seat was a settlement on the north side of Rickreall Creek named Cynthian (also known as Cynthia Ann).
City officials later changed the name to Dallas after Vice President George M. Dallas. The first frame courthouse was
built in 1851 in Cynthia Ann. The second courthouse was built in 1856; it burned in 1898 and was replaced with the
present building, built with sandstone quarried 3 miles north of town.

 I am  Gayle Triller the County Coordinator for Polk County.   I live in Salem and plan on making trips to the State Archives

The ORGenWeb/USGenWeb Project

In March and April, 1996, a group of genealogists organized the Kentucky Comprehensive Genealogy Database Project.
The idea was to provide a single entry point for all counties in Kentucky, where collected databases would be stored.
In addition, the databases would be indexed and cross-linked, so even if an individual were found in more than one county,
they could be located in the index.

At the same time, volunteers were found who were willing to coordinate the collection of databases and generally
oversee the contents of the web page. Now there is a web page for every county in the country.
