Endnote: Cabin passengers 10 between decks 173 Original Transcriber's Notes and Bibliography: ?= faded characters. This record is faded and many letters/numbers are unclear. The captain's surname is spelled out: Gaetjen but also with umlauteda: Gatjen. The writer lists family units by recording father first, "wife", then his "daughter," Surname is the same as the head of household. Spellings as found are retained on this list, i.e. Newyork and Cincenneti.

All the passengers are of German descent, but given names have been Anglicized, i.e. Henry probably was Heinrich; Charles may have been Carl; Godfred was probably Gottfried, Louis/Ludwig, William/Wilhelm, John/Johann, etc. Guesses at place names: Fortweyn/Fort Wayne, Rosswill/Roseville or Roswell.

This list from the National Archives and Records Administration Microfilm 237/768)was compared to a list found in a monograph which can be found in the Ostfriesen Genealogical Society of America library at Forest Lake MN.

The monograph titled "From Bremen to America in 1850: Fourteen Rare Emigrant Ship Lists" by Clifford Neal Smith, Monograph No. 22 in the German-American Genalogical Research Series ISSN 0094-7806, published by Westland Publications, McNeal, Arizona, 1987.

In the preface to the monograph, Mr. Smith states that the information comes from an obscure weekly newspaper from Rudolstadt, Thuringia (Germany)entitled the "Allgemeine Auswanderungs-Zeitung", devoted to news about ship sailings.

This newspaper can be found in the Beinecke Rare Book Collection of the Yale University Library.
